Becky’s health journey began in 2018, as a struggling mom of 2 , weighing over 300 pounds and looking for some help. Becky made several life- changing commitments this year. Although Becky had been a member of Eastpointe Health & Fitness since 2009, it was in 2018 that she began training with us in Shore Results and opted for gastric sleeve surgery. During her 140lb weight loss journey her training, nutrition counseling and ongoing support and motivation have been imperative to her success.
Even after her weight loss, Becky was still dealing with chronic foot pain that she had been managing for years. Several times she relied on cortisone shots to help alleviate the pain, thinking that it was mostly related to the burden of carrying around excessive weight. However, after losing weight she was still not seeing any relief. Five years later, in 2023, Becky was diagnosed with Posterior Tendon Dysfunction, in addition to a collapsed arch. Suddenly, it became clearer why the cortisone shots she had received over the last several years were only providing temporary relief. She made the decision to have the surgery in March of 2024. Although the surgery was a success, and her optimism of a pain-free future was higher than ever before, she knew she still had a long 12-week recovery ahead of her.
Leading up to her surgery and immediately after, Becky fondly recalls Julia Marrone, Eastpointe’s Personal Training Manager, and other Eastpointe staff reaching out to check in to see how she was doing and to offer whatever support they could. She acknowledged that these simple, yet thoughtful check-ins kept her optimism high and motivated her even more on her return.
Shortly after beginning her physical therapy, she was able to return to her personal training at Eastpointe Health & Fitness with Julia ensuring all programs were “foot friendly”. In addition to keeping her feet healthy during her workouts, the staff at Eastpointe Health & Fitness provided guidance, encouragement and mental support. Coming off surgery and being away from her workouts for so long, Becky knew it would be easy to quit altogether; however, her determination and the support she received kept her moving towards her goal.
Fast forward four months, and Becky is already back to her normal routine. She admittedly may be a touch slower than before the surgery, but she trains three times each and week and has even worked some Spin classes back into her routine. She is feeling stronger, faster and more mobile every day. “If it was not for Julia and the staff at Eastpointe, I am not sure I would have recovered so well both mentally and physically” Becky explains.
